Presentation in the Creative Teacher Showcase (CTS) and Creative Student Teacher Showcase (CSTC) categories
If you submitted a proposal for one of these categories and you have received an official letter inviting you to present at the conference, congratulations!
You must now register for the conference via the online registration system available at the conference website. Multiple authors of a single presentation must register and pay separately.
Discounted Day-rate for CTS and CSTS presenters
Also note that the conference organisers are offering a special day rate only for Malaysian school teachers and pre-service teachers registering as CTS and CSTS presenters.
Teachers presenting in the CTS category may choose to register and attend the conference for just one day at a special rate of RM150.
Pre-service teachers can do the same at a special rate of RM100.
If you choose this day-rate, you can only join us for the first day of the conference to present in the CTS or CSTS categories. You will still be entitled to a certificate of participation, refreshments and lunch on Day 1. For further details about this day-rate, contact the conference secretariat.
Preparing for Presentation
CTS and CSTS categories are slotted for presentation on Day 1 of the conference. Stations made up of a display board and a table will be provided for every presentation. The organisers cannot guarantee you access to an electric socket. You are encouraged to set up your presentations early on the first day of the conference. Ideally you should take advantage of the pre-registration of delegates on the evening of the 29th of May 2016. This will allow you to set up your stations before the opening ceremony on the first day of the conference.
After the opening ceremony and royal lecture by MELTA’s Royal Patron, DYMM Permaisuri Johor, there will be a morning tea break. CTS and CSTS presenters are encouraged to quickly return to their respective stations as the Royal Patron and other invited guests are known to frequent CTS/CSTS stations.
You may use your display boards and the table assigned to you to display images of classroom activities you carried out, posterns and realia used in the lessons and any other material that will help conference delegates understand the creative nature of the lesson you intend to showcase.
The tentative schedule that will be out soon on the conference website will inform you of the station you have been assigned and the times when you have to be at your stations for judging. A panel of judges will be visiting every station to talk to you about your presentation. Based on this Q&A session, the judges will select gold, silver and bronze winners in both the CTS and CSTS categories.
What are the judges looking for?
The judges will visit all CTS and CSTS stations to talk to you about your showcase. Among others, the judges would be interested in the following:
- Does the content of your showcase deliver what the title and abstract promises?
Do the materials/visuals that you display highlight key elements of the lesson/activity that you are showcasing?
- Have you or others tried out the activities that you are showcasing and is there evidence of success?
- What significant implications are there of the lesson/activity you are showcasing for practitioners?
- What are the potential limitations/challenges in using the showcased materials? How can the materials be adapted for use in different settings (i.e. students of different proficiency levels, etc)?
